Apple: iTunes Refresh Delayed through November

iTunes 11Well, if you were eagerly anticipating the redesigned iTunes this month, you’re just going to have to wait a little longer. Apple has revealed the next major update to its media player and marketplace won’t arrive until sometime before the “end of November.”

The iTunes redesign was originally mentioned during the September 12 media event, alongside the official announcement of the iPhone 5. Apple senior vice-president Eddie Cue unveiled the big changes to one of the company’s flagship software products, originally slated for an October release.

But speaking to All Things D today, Apple has apparently pushed back the release of iTunes 11 until sometime later next month.

“The new iTunes is taking longer than expected and we wanted to take a little extra time to get it right,” said Apple’s Tom Neumayr. “We look forward to releasing this new version of iTunes with its dramatically simpler and cleaner interface, and seamless integration with iCloud before the end of November.”

As of this writing, Apple’s own site still lists the new iTunes as “coming in October.”

Whenever it releases, the much-needed iTunes refresh will feature an all new edge-to-edge design. A new drop-down menu allows easier navigation of your library, and a brand-new mini-player joins other upgrades like seamless iCloud integration.
