Cloud storage has become a hot commodity in the tech world, with each service continually trying to leapfrog the others. This week, it’s SugarSync’s turn, with a slick new version 2.0 public beta now available for all to enjoy.
SugarSync has announced a public beta for version 2.0 of its service is now available for Mac and PC users, with an Android beta also available for download from the company’s website.
SugarSync 2.0 is a complete redesign of the service’s front end, putting the focus on your cloud storage content first and foremost. The desktop application is much smaller than before, with tabs at the top for Cloud, Sharing and Activity as well as a new Search feature.
Previous versions made it a bit more cumbersome to sync entire folders to SugarSync, but version 2.0 now includes a large blue target area for dragging and dropping (or selecting) folders to add. By default, the app shows all of the folders a user has added to SugarSync across all computers and devices.
If you’ve been missing iDisk since MobileMe went away, you’ll be happy to know that SugarSync 2.0 also includes a virtual disk of its own in the Mac Finder, with convenient access to all of your synced files and folders. Double-click on a remote file, and SugarSync will instantly download it from the cloud.
There’s plenty more for both new and existing users, so head over to the SugarSync beta website and download the desktop client today. A new iOS app will be heading to the App Store once the service leaves beta, but for now Android users can download their own beta from the same place.
