Did you know that if you own an iPad you don’t actually need to own a NOOK to purchase eBooks from Barnes and Noble? All you need is the iOS NOOK app, which is free to download from the app store, then you can read NOOK books on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
This is good news for anyone with a B&N gift card burning a hole in his pocket. Plus, thanks to a recent upgrade, the iOS Nook app now supports comics and graphic novels.
There are more than 8,000 titles available, so whether you’re into Marvel, Dark Horse, Pokemon, Manga, or even Babymouse, there’s something great to read. The new app includes a zoom view feature that allows the reader to focus on a single panel of the comic, which helps replicate the experience one might have with a traditional printed comic.
“With our free, updated NOOK for iOS application, we’re delivering to customers with iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch a great optimized reading experience, now with access to NOOK Comics, one of the leading collections of digital comics and graphic novels available,” said Jamie Iannone, President of Digital Products at NOOK Media LLC. “Using their iOS device, customers can enjoy NOOK’s collection of more than 3 million digital books, magazines and newspapers, as well comics and graphic novels with the stunning Zoom View feature.”
In addition to the comic reader support, the update for the NOOK for iOS app include:
Animated page turns for NOOK Books.
Ability to enlarge book illustrations for detailed imagery.
Improved organization for NOOK Newsstand periodicals in customers’ libraries.
Updated improvements to PagePerfect/PDF titles for easier viewing.
Do you own a NOOK? Are you excited to use it to read comics or graphic novels. If you don’t own a NOOK, will you give reading comics on the iPad via the NOOK app a try? Let us know in the comments.
