New iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5 Reportedly to Arrive in time for Christmas

iPad MiniApple is on track to launch its next generation of tablets later this year. Most industry speculation points to a fall launch of all of the company’s new iOS-based products, including the next generation of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

However, DigiTimes is reporting today that the company may have a strategic plan to layer the launch dates, at least for the tablets, in 2013.

According to DigiTimes, mass production of the 9.7-inch iPad will begin in July or August in order to be ready for shipment by fall. An unnamed source claims that Apple is estimated to ship five million full-sized fifth-generation iPads during the third quarter of 2013.

The iPad mini, however, is expected to have a delayed launch with mass production not starting until September or November. According to the sources, Apple is strategizing the release of both new products so that the smaller tablet does not impact sales of the larger tablet quite so much.

“As for the second-generation iPad mini, some market watchers believe the delay is because 9.7-inch iPad sales were seriously impacted by iPad mini in 2012, and so to avoid the situation from happening again, Apple has turned its product focus for 2013 to the new 9.7-inch iPad.”

No matter what Apple decides for launch dates, both tablets will be on store shelves in time for the holiday season. Fans of the iPad mini may just have to wait a few more months.
