What New Products Can We Expect to see This Fall? A WWDC Rundown

iOS 7At today’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), Apple announced a few new products that we can expect to see this fall. While some products were no surprise, others were not widely rumored in the tech world. Plus, some products that were rumored to be getting a big announcement today were noticeably missing from Apple’s keynote address.

tile_osx_imageThe first big product announcement was for the newest OS X operating system. Apple is straying away from the cat family with the upcoming launch of OS X 10.9, Mavericks. This new operating system for the Mac will include iBooks integration, Apple’s Maps app on your desktop, a redesigned calendar app that includes location finding, a completely redesigned Safari Web browser, and the new iCloud Keychain. Mavericks will also allow users to have multiple displays without sharing things like menu bars and running apps. You can either run different apps on different screens, or combine them, running one app on both screens. Mavericks will be available this fall. The price is unknown, but will likely be priced similarly to its predecessor at $19.99.

In addition to the refresh of Apple’s line of laptops, the company unveiled the next generationtile_macpro_image Mac Pro. The sleek, new professional-grade computer is more powerful, has more memory, features the newest generation of flash with expandable storage arrays. It features Thunderbolt 2 with backwards compatibility with Thunderbolt 1 and FireWire. It also comes standard with dual workstation GPUs. The new Mac Pro is about one-eighth the size of the previous model with easy access to all IO ports.

tile_iworkforicloud_imageOne surprise feature that was demonstrated at today’s keynote address was iCloud for iWorks. This makes all of your iWorks documents accessible from any Web browsers. All you have to do is log into your account though the iCloud website from Safari, Internet Explorer, and Chrome. That means, you can create, edit, and save files from Mac, PC, and even iPad through the iCloud website. iWork in iCloud is already available as a developer beta with a public launch later this year.

The much-rumored iTunes Radio was announced at today’s keynote. The new streaming musicservice from Apple will act much like Pandora, with playlists being revised and customized based on your own music-listening activities. The one thing that makes iRadio stand out from other music streaming services that are already available is that Apple will offer exclusive listening events where iRadio users will be able to hear new music that is not yet available anywhere else. The iRadio service will be free and ad-supported. Subscribers to iTunes Match will have access to the ad-free version of iRadio. This service will be available this fall.

tile_ios7_imageOf course, Apple demonstrated the upcoming new iOS 7software. The changes to be seen this fall are mind-boggling. The iPhone won’t even look the same when iOS 7 launches. There are so many new features that Apple couldn’t even cover everything.

Don’t worry though, as we become more familiar with Apple’s new operating system, we’ll be sure to fill you in on how everything works.
