by Feedly’s gained more than eight million new users since it launched its cloud-based RSS feed to replace the now-defunct Google Reader, which again calls into question why Google thought the service was so outdated in the first place. All that aside, today Feedly announced that if you want to slap down $5 a month, you’ll get an even better Feedly experience in your Mac’s browser with Feedly Pro.
As you might recall from our review, we loved the Feedly iOS app in its current state, and we cited only a handful of downsides. Unfortuately, the current Feedly Pro offerings don’t affect the iOS app (for now), but they mark a welcome improvement for those of us who use the site to keep track of what’s going on a wide range of different websites on our desktops.
Specifically, you’ll get the ability to search within your Feedly RSS feeds, an extra layer of browsing security through https, the ability to save with one click to Evernote, and the ability to get bumped to the front of the support line when you’re having trouble. According to the announcement site, the “funds will finance the hardware needed to make feedly pro generally available and help support the next batch of features.”
Earlier today, Feedly offered 5,000 limited-edition lifetime subscriptions to Feedly Pro, which sold out quickly after the announcement. If you’re disappointed that you didn’t get one, fear not — apparently Feedly plans to offer additional lifetime subscriptions sometime this fall, as reported by TechCrunch.
