It is Monday again. Another workweek begins and another fun weekend is put to bed. Every Monday, we tell you a little something about one of the recipients of the coveted App Store Editor’s Choice award. Last week, algoriddim’s djay 2 took the honor

As time inches closer to the official launch of iOS 7, more developers are releasing apps and games that compliment the new, flat design. Themes are moving away from faux realism and toward electronic, spacey, and minimalistic. This week’s App Store Editor’s Choice is being awarded to an app that makes the best use of sound and touch gesture, while maintaining a spacey, electronic look.

Dropchord is a casual gesture-based game that focuses on the rhythm of the music and the movement of your thumbs. Grab notes and avoid “Scratches” to earn the highest score.

To play, place your thumbs on either side of the screen until the two beams touch. Then, move the beam around inside the circle to collect notes. Avoid the scratches. They damage the beam. If you collect all notes in a measure without a scratch, you will earn extra points.

In addition to beam movement, other game mechanics include tapping the screen with one finger or two to collect the notes, and trigger the sync pads by spinning the beams.

There are times when you are moving your beam around in so many strange ways that it almost feels like you are spinning a record on a turntable.

The game looks amazing. It is full of brightly colored lines against a deep, black setting. The theme changes during gameplay. Sometimes the background is white, or sometimes the lines go blurry.

The soundtrack is reminiscent of Daft Punk’s most recent album. Players enjoy a mix of aesthetically pleasing visuals and energetic audio. If you are a fan of dance music, electronica, and similar genres, you will appreciate the time and effort that went into creating a game that looks good and sounds great.

Dropchord is available for both the iPhone and iPad. Download it for $2.99 in the App Store today.
