Earlier this week, AllThingsD reported that unnamed sources with insider information said that Apple will unveil its next iPhone at a special event on Sept. 10. While this would still be filed under the “rumor” category, it comes with a helping of legitimacy as AllThingsD has a good relationship with Apple. Amid the fervor of speculation that followed the report, analysts are coming up with their predictions for the lineup that will come with the fall event.
Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster [via: CNN Money] believes that, although Apple will launch a new iPhone on Sept. 10, the iPad refresh will have to wait a little longer. He believes that the company will schedule a separate event a few weeks later to announce the new iPad lineup. He describes the fifth-generation iPad in much the same way that the rest of the tech industry does. It will be thinner, lighter, and look like a larger version of the iPad mini.
There has been a lot of conflicting information as to whether Apple will launch a second-generation iPad mini with or without the Retina display. Muster believes that the refresh will sport the high-def screen with full pixel resolution.
Bloomberg is also reporting on Apple’s upcoming fall event. The news organization believes Apple’s new mobile operating system, in addition to the iPhone and iPad refresh, will help push the company back into the spotlight. Apple’s iOS 7 will feature a completely new look and improved email, calendar, and photo storage applications.
Analyst Carl Howe of Yankee Group told Bloomberg he predicts that Apple will generate record sales during the holiday quarter of this year. “Other companies tend to move their releases to avoid being overshadowed by Apple,” he said. IDC analyst Ramon Llamas believes that Apple’s fall product launch will see a spike in sales that will last for about six months.
