Popular Task Management iPad and iPhone App ‘Todoist’ Gets iOS 7 Facelift

Todoist

Raise your hand if you could use more organization in your life. I am always on the lookout for a better way to keep track of the hundreds of things I have to do each day. I have a full time career, a lot of freelance work, four kids, and a few hobbies. With an iOS 7 compatible update for Todoist now available, maybe it’s time to finally check it out.

It happens too often that developers create an app which is limited to a single operating system. I can understand Apple running a business like that, but even they have moved Pages to the cloud which can be accessed across platforms. Todist is an example of an ecosystem that is as nearly universal as it gets and in this case that is a strength.

The new interface is sleek, elegant, and intuitive to use. You can keep track of all of your tasks on your iPad, web browser, and even on your Android device. Most services are free, with a handful of advanced features available through a yearly subscription of $29.

My first question about using any task management software is what will it add that the built-in iOS 7 features can’t do already. Many of the features of Todoist are replicated by other apps but there is a level of product maturity that you don’t find every where. While I do like Todoist, here are several reasons that I am on the fence about switching over to using it full time.

Siri is extremely easy to use to schedule events and reminders. I’m not fond of the decreased battery life when using Siri and leaving location services on, but I love that I can tell Siri to remind me to do something when I get home and she knows exactly what to do.
The minimalist approach is beautiful but the new iOS 7 calendar and task management features look just as good. If I had to live in an iOS 6 world I would certainly use Todoist.
Todoist can organize tasks as projects which I find very useful but so can Reminders. Both have priority levels and color coding. I like them both and wonder if I would see more of a difference after using Todoist over time.

Aside from being able to use Todoist pretty much anywhere and on any device, it is very similar to Reminders. The biggest differences happen when upgrading to the paid service and I’m not convinced I need those features right now. Either way, this is a good upgrade and I’m sure a lot of people will find it useful.
