T-Mobile to End Grandfathered Plans, Implement New Rates [iOS Blog]

T-Mobile will be putting an end to its grandfathered plans, reports TmoNews, in an attempt to simplify its offerings. According to a T-Mobile spokesperson, though its grandfathered plans are ending, customers will be offered “similar or better features at a comparable price.”

Simple is better, which is why we’re reducing the number of older plans in our systems. We’re giving customers on these plans the opportunity to choose a plan that best meets their needs. For the vast majority, their plan will provide similar or better features at a comparable price.A letter was also sent out to customers on the upcoming changes, which will see users shifted to one of the company’s Simple Choice rate plans.Thank you for being a loyal T-Mobile customer. We appreciate your business and are committed to providing the best mobile experience for you. We listened to customer requests to simplify wireless, and have responded by restructuring all of our current plans to be simple and straightforward–and with unlimited voice now included in all plans. In November, we’ll be retiring your old rate plan and upgrading you to a new rate plan.It appears that T-Mobile is granting special rates to the grandfathered customers that it is switching to new plans, offering one user Unlimited Voice, Text, and 4G data for $45/month, a plan that is normally priced at $70/month.

T-Mobile’s new rate plans will take effect in November, and the company is giving customers the option to cancel their service with no penalty until February 1, 2014.
