LG plans to introduce its first 4K monitor next month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The new display will sport an unusually wide aspect ratio, according to Engadget.
The new display has a native resolution of 4,096 x 2160 pixels, At an almost 1.9:1 aspect ratio, it’s proportionally wider than conventional 4K monitor, which works at 3840 x 2160 pixels (16:9). Pricing has not been announced yet – that presumably is coming at CES.
The display conforms to the Digital Cinema Initiatives consortium’s standard resolution for 4K. That’s the same resolution that digital theater projectors work at – better suited, at least for the moment, to video and film professionals who are editing on the big display. What’s more, the new monitor comes with a Thunderbolt 2 port – the same kind of connector available on the Mac Pro and the newest Retina MacBook Pro.
We’ll find out next month when the new 31-inch 31MU95 is expected to hit the streets. It’ll be nice for early Mac Pro adopters to have options. Apple still says the Mac Pro is expected to ship in December. so some of us will be able to get cracking sooner. Some of us are on pins and needles waiting!
