Apple Drops Support for Windows 7 in Boot Camp for New Mac Pro

Windows 7 remains one of the most popular operating systems for Apple’s rival Microsoft, but apparently the folks in Cupertino want nothing to do with it. According to new support documents (via MacRumors), Apple’s Boot Camp for the new Mac Pro no longer supports installations of the 2009 platform. If you want to run Windows on your sleek 2013 Mac Pro, in other words, you’re going to install Windows 8.

Further proof lies elsewhere. Screenshots taken by Twocanoes Software prove that the Mac Pro only supports “Windows 8 or later,” making this the first time that a Mac running Boot Camp 5 can’t boot up Windows 7. Currently there’s no word on why Apple might have made such a decision, other than from the simple fact that the operating system has been out for a few years now.
