By now, practically everyone has heard the rumor that Apple is making a 12.9-inch “iPad Pro.” The ferver has gotten so intense that concept images are now being published. CURVED/labs recently showed off a series of concept images that feature a larger sized tablet with no side bezel at all. When compared to the 13-inch MacBook Air, you can really see just how big the screen would be on a tablet this size.
The series includes a few images of the iPad Pro next to a 13-inch MacBook Air, plus, stacked up against the iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPhone. Even compared to the 9.7-inch iPad Air, the Pro model looks enormous.
CURVED/labs included their own ideas about the specs and features that an iPad Air would have. This new model would be equipped with Touch ID. The screen would have a 4K-solution display with 3072 x 2304 pixel resolution at 298ppi. The screen would use LED backlights and IPS technology.
Although much wider, the iPad Pro would retain the same thickness as the iPad Air at only 7.5mm. Because the screen is so much bigger, and requires so many more pixels, the device would require an A8 chipset with 64-Bit architecture. Additionally, the higher screen resolution would demand optimized apps. CURVED notes that they would be labeled accordingly with the title “Pro.”
When you see the comparison and think about the required tech specs, the idea of a 12.9-inch iPad Pro really doesn’t seem like something Apple would invest in. However, I didn’t think Apple would make an iPad mini, so who am I to judge.
