Powerful iPhone and iPad App Creation Now Available via Your Mobile Browser

I absolutely love adsy.me because it is a showcase of a creative use of HTML5 that allows you to create mobile web apps on the fly. Visit adsy.me to start browsing examples of published web apps and then setup a free account to create your own.

When I first read about adsy.me there were some references to Geocities, and that was almost enough to make me want to skip checking it out altogether. For those of you who remember Geocities you’ll think of a website designer that is web based with very rudimentary tools and overused blinking text. Fortunately I decided to look at adsy.me in spite of the comparison and even though I now understand the comparison, I also feel like adsy.me is something completely different because it creates a beautifully functional web experience that closely resembles native apps.

The interface is really easy to use and I had an app up and running in about five minutes. It is easy to add content, and even easier to add links between pages and functions. Perhaps my favorite feature is the ability to use a finger to draw a linkable area on the page. Once you draw a shape, then you can select what happens when it is touched. It was extremely easy.

What are the downsides to this platform? It would be amazing to be able to build actual apps like this, but that isn’t the case. The result is that you only have access to content when you have data access, which is likely most of the time but maybe not when you are on vacation or in a remote location. There is also a lot of unfulfilled potential when working in HTML5. Features that could be added could provide the ability to create simple games and more complex animations.

Overall this is a really successful venture into the user-creation process on the mobile web. Since it is free you can check it out for yourself at adsy.me.
