iCorners Brings Case-less Protection to your iPad

235 Corners

Buying an iPad is a substantial investment that you will want to protect, but often the cases that provide the most safety also detract from the benefits from having a lightweight mobile device. A company called Simple Innovations has designed an elegant solution called iCorners that protects your iPad through the use of high quality corners, which add minimal weight and stay out of the way of normal use.

iCorners are the focus of a new KickStarter campaign which just started and is already finding supporters. I instantly liked the concept of iCorners but I was curious about how they would attach and how easy it would be to remove them. The answer is 3M™ clear adhesive tape 300LSE, which appears to be really high quality and up to the challenge of keeping the corners in place. From the KickStarter description:

“3M™ adhesive tapes are industry standard for applications requiring non-hardening over time adhesives maintaining high bond strength in broad temperature range. If iCorners™ need to be removed from iPad® – tape easily rubs off from smooth iPad® housing without any residue left.”

The corners are made from Makrolon® polycarbonate, which means they are pretty much indestructible. It isn’t clear how much of a shock they can absorb when dropped and that is my biggest question about this product. It is one of those questions that most people learn the hard way.

The corners work with both the iPad Air and the iPad Mini Retina, but if funded I assume that they would likely expand their product line. As it typical with KickStarters there are a variety of pledge levels available, with more than 150 early bird slots still open. If you think you want this product then $12 is hard to beat.
