In 1991, Sid Meier launched a 4X (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) video game that changed the way we play empire-building simulations forever. In 2010, Civilization Revolution became a huge success on the iPad. However, that game was a port of the console version by Firaxis Games. Today, 2K announced that Civilization Revolution 2, the first ever Civilization title to be developed exclusively for mobile platforms, will make its debut in the App Store on July 2.
2K, the game company that distributes Civ Rev on the iPad, will launch the sequel in less than two weeks. The new title will feature high-impact graphics, new gameplay, and controls that are specifically designed for a mobile gaming experience.
Civ Rev II will allow players to start a civilization dating back to 4,000 BC and develop a civilization that spans thousands of years leading up to the modern age. You will battle for land ownership against some of history’s most fearless leaders as you wage war, conduct diplomacy, create new technologies, and build the most powerful empire in the world.
The sequel will include notable historical figures that are familiar from Civ Rev, including Abraham Lincoln, Gandhi, and Napoleon. Players will also come face to face with new additions to the story, including Winston Churchill and John F. Kennedy, who are making their first appearance in the series.
Civilization Revolution 2 will be available on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on July 2. There is no information as to pricing. However, Civ Rev costs $6.99 and the sequel will likely be comparable in price.
