Amazon has really been ramping up its services and features lately. The company recently added streaming music to its list of content available to Prime members. In April, the Fire TV became Apple TV’s newest competitor. Just last week, the Fire smartphone was announced, which will bring Amazon’s entire app ecosystem, as well as a few unique features.
Today, Amazon updated its iOS Instant Video app to include HBO shows for Prime members, new video playback controls, and “First Episode Free” content for everyone.
Amazon recently announced that it would be making some of HBO’s most popular television shows available to stream at no additional cost to Prime members. The company has now made those shows available on the iOS app so you can watch The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, and more, right on your iPad without having to pay an additional price.
Plus, whether you are a Prime member or not, you now have access to the first episode of nearly 100 different television shows for free. Watch such titles as “The OC,” “Wonder Woman,” Two and a half Men,” and more. Free content includes advertisement breaks before and during playback.
Speaking of playback, the app now includes one-touch play/pause and 10-second skip forward/backward controls, as well as a “Next Episode” button so you can start playing the next episode in a series with one tap. Content now loads faster as well.
Amazon Instant Video is available on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch for free. Download it in the App Store today.
