Activision has been ramping up for the Oct. 5 launch of its newest action adventure game based in the Skylanders world. Today, the company announced that it will be adding tablets to the same-day release schedule, making it the first time a Skylanders game will launch on mobile devices in tandum with the console version.
Skylanders Trap Team is the follow up game to Skylanders: Swap Force. In it players take on the evil that Kaos unleashed by taking on the role of the Portal Master and recapturing all of the escaped villains.
What makes the Skylanders game so interesting is that it uses the “Toys to Life” technology to bring physical toys together with the digital world. Players can defeat villains and “pull them out of the game” by capturing them in traps that exist in the real world.
The Skylanders Trap Team tablet starter pack includes a Bluetooth Traptanium Portal with a connected iPad stand, two Skylander characters, two Traps, a display tray, and an embedded Bluetooth controller.
By plugging in one of your included Skylander characters into the Trap portal, you will be able to activate it in the game and control that villain as a good guy. You will also be able to switch between the connected character and your main one. Characters from previous Skylander games will be compatible with this new device.
“Skylanders has become an incredibly appealing brand and franchise for kids around the world. And the tablet has become an incredibly appealing gaming platform for kids around the world. But we haven’t been able to bring the full Skylanders experience to the tablet until now,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “We always want to deliver breakthrough experiences, and we also always want to be wherever gamers want to play. This is a chance for us to bring the magic of Skylanders to a whole new platform and audience. Whether you want to sit on the couch and play with the wireless controller, or play on the go using just the tablet itself, this provides a great experience for gamers.”
Skylander Trap Team will be available Oct. 5 in North America, Oct. 10 in Europe, and Oct. 2 in Australia. The tablet starter pack, which comes with a Traptanium Portal with a controller embedded in the base and a connected iPad stand, two Skylander characters, two Traps, and a display tray, will be available for purchase on the launch date for $74.99.
