Watching your favorite movies and TV shows got just a little bit easier, thanks to an update to the Amazon Instant Video app for iOS.
The new release to the free offering for iPhones and iPads brings two important improvements to the online retail giant’s video streaming service: The first is compatibility with Apple’s AirPlay technology, which means that you can now play video on your iOS device and stream it wirelessly to your Apple TV.
In addition, the app has also added direct integration with the Internet Movie Database, which gives users access to content metadata like cast and crew, trivia, and goofs. To round things out, Amazon is also introducing a few minor improvements, such as the ability to download multiple files at once, a faster user interface, and several bug fixes.
The changes introduced by the update are in line with Amazon’s strategy of playing nice with a wide range of platforms in order to focus on delivering content through as many channels as possible. Since it’s unlikely that Instant Video will ever find its way to the home screen of an Apple TV, supporting AirPlay means elevating the streaming service from a largely mobile-only product—at least as far as users of Apple’s ecosystem are concerned—to one that may well find its way into your living room.
