After a tumultuous couple of days, Apple was finally able to push an update to iOS 8 that fixed the fairly egregious error with causing iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners to lose cell service and Touch ID. By this morning, you were probably already prompted to update.
Within a few hours of the update going live HealthKit created apps have started to appear in the App Store. Now, apps that use the HealthKit software development kit (SDK) can send information to Apple’s Health app so you can track such things as diet and exercise without having to open multiple apps.
For example, the recipe app Yummly just pushed out an update that will allow users to track nutrition and servings of what they’ve eaten to the Health app. Plus, when connected to the Health App, Yummly will provide better recipe suggestions based on the nutrition and calorie information provided.
MyFitnessPal has also been updated with HealthKit compatibility. Users can now share meal data, sync weight, and add exercises from other HealthKit apps to your diary.
The HealthKit SDK was supposed to make it possible for developers to connect their content through the Health app in iOS 8. However, due to issues relating to the software, Apple held that service back.
Then, iOS 8.0.1 was supposed to bring the service to us, but we all know what happened there.
Finally, with iOS 8.0.2, developers can now make it possible for you to use the Health app as a go-between so that your various diet and exercise apps can essentially talk to each other.
As the day continues, we are sure to find out more about additional apps that support HealthKit compatibility.
