Apple seeds iOS 6.1 beta 5 to developers, delays public release

When everyone was expecting Apple to release iOS 6.1 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch for public the company has taken everyone by surprise after it seeded iOS 6.1 beta 5 to its developer community. The iOS 6.1 beta 5 is available for download through the dev center for those who have Apple’s paid developer membership.

Strangely the beta Apple has released carries an odd build number and many well known developers have found out that this iOS 6.1b5 is not actually a beta and can be activated on a non-developer device. They also believe that this particular beta file could be released for public at Apple’s will as it features a build ID of a final release and not of a beta. Which could mean that Apple found out a last minute bug or is confused on something that lead it to delay the public release.

The iOS 6.1,   which will be released for everyone sooner or later brings several improvements and enhancements for the users. The new iOS version will bring the movie ticket ordering feature, better lock screen controls and other minor tweaks to improve the overall experience. For developers, iOS 6.1 will enable them to integrate Apple’s maps into their iOS apps.

No details about the public release of iOS 6.1 are available yet.
