The evidence is mounting that Apple will be unveiling a watch-like wearable computing device at tomorrow’s media event in Cupertino, CA. This morning, Reddit poster Owen Carlyle submitted eight pictures that he claims are technical images of the so-called iWatch.
According to Carlyle, the iWatch will include a microphone, speaker, and support for Siri. The screen will be flexible and multi-touch with a “new dimension to the UI.” It will not charge via cable. There are no ports. It will supposedly be waterproof to eight-meter depths. The battery will last “over a day.” Apparently, there will be eight different models, four colors in two sizes.
Carlyle notes that the timeline for the device is not yet finalized and mass production is scheduled for January 2015. If this information is correct, Apple will definitely not have the iWatch ready in time for the holiday season, which many analysts were predicting.
It doesn’t mean Apple won’t show off the wearable computer tomorrow. It is possible the company has working prototypes of the iWatch and will give us a glimpse at what we can look forward to in a few months time.
It is all but confirmed that Apple is building a watch. The only question we have now is what it will look like. There have been dozens of mockups based on leaked information, but none of them have a cohesive design. Some are round. Others are square. Some have vinyl bands. Others have leather. Some look like sports watches. Others look like luxury timepieces. Hopefully, all will be revealed tomorrow.
