Finding ways to improve your health isn’t always easy, but an app that helps you monitor your fitness goals can be a real helping hand. Argus by Azumio is a free alternative to the more expensive and heftier apps on the market, and offers you plenty of ways to keep track of your daily activities, water intake, and even hours you sleep. Just don’t expect it to do anything more than that.
At its core, Argus is an activity tracker that uses many of your phone’s built-in features to log and record various activities. You can select from a list of physical activities such as running, cycling, or even paddle boarding, and have Argus start timing how long you perform each one. Each activity you complete or select gets added to the app’s main screen, which acts as a timeline that displays your daily routine in a sleek honeycomb design. You can tap some of your timeline’s icons to see detailed records, so it’s great for keeping a daily log of how active you were on certain days. The app also provides you with data graphs so you can see how your level of activity fluctuates over different periods of time.
In addition to physical activities, you can also keep track of which foods and drinks you consume each day. Argus lets you take pictures of your foods and manually select what food groups they belong to, though food simply gets added to your timeline and you aren’t provided with anything beneficial other than a mental note of what you ate. You can, however, set daily goals for the number of glasses of water you hope to drink, and Argus will conveniently remind you when your next glass of water should be.
Despite tracking your activities, Argus doesn’t tell you how many calories you burn after completing each one. Instead, the app behaves more like a sophisticated pedometer that excels at its job but leaves the more necessary calculations up to you. It will help keep you organized, but you’ll have to look elsewhere if you want a more tailored fitness tracker.
The bottom line. Argus works well as a logbook for all your daily activities, but don’t expect it to actively help you improve your fitness goals.
