Been looking forward to the release of the highly anticipated iPad mini with Retina display? According to Bloomberg, you won’t have to wait much longer, and if you find that size truly matters, you’ll be happy to know we might be seeing the launch of the new iPad at the same time. Unfortunately, we won’t see them during the same September 10 event focusing on the launch of the new iPhone, but during a separate event scheduled for the “last three months” of 2013.
As per usual with Bloomberg’s similar announcements, the news came from an anonymous source familiar with the inner workings at Apple. (Ever wonder what would happen if Apple identified these people?) Specifically, Bloomberg states: “Apple Inc. is preparing to introduce a new version of the iPad with a thinner design, people familiar with the plans said, as the company works to stay atop the increasingly crowded tablet-computer market. Apple also plans to introduce a new iPad mini, the first with a high-resolution screen, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the development is private.”
As we mentioned in another article today, the new 9.7-inch iPad will incorporate some of the design features of the iPad mini, resulting in a thinner and lighter model than what we saw in March of 2012. Aside from the new Retina display, the iPad mini itself apparently won’t see many changes. Not the most awe-inspiring announcement, to be sure, but here’s to hoping that Apple CEO Tim Cook and friends have something else up their sleeves to justify that claim of “amazing new products” scheduled for this fall and through 2014.
