According to a new report today from Bloomberg, Foxconn Technology Group, the world’s largest electronics manufacturing plant, began hiring again after a two-month freeze in preparation of Apple’s new line of products.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), in a separate report, claims that Foxconn will continue expanding its workforce in Zhengzhou to meet seasonal demands from clients, while an unnamed source claims the demand comes straight from Apple.
Both news organizations are pointing to Apple’s new iPhone as the reason for the increase in hiring. However, recent iPad rumors show that Apple is also on track to launch a newly designed tablet model that is likely contributing to the need for additional employees.
An unnamed executive in Zhengzhou told WSJ that Foxconn has been “very busy recently as we will start mass-production of the new iPhone soon.” Foxconn representative Liu Kun told Bloomberg that the Zhengzhou plant currently employs 250,000 to 300,000, but declined to comment on the new hires.
The Zhengzhou plant reportedly exclusively makes iPhones. However, earlier rumors indicated that Hon Hai general, Foxconn’s parent company, and TSMC, Apple’s supposed newest chipmaker, are both hiring for 2013, which likely means iPads are on the list of upcoming new product launches later this year.
