Endomondo’s fitness tracking app ties into HealthKit and adds interactive notifications

Endomondo has just released an update for its app that brings with it integration with Apple’s new Health app along with iOS 8 compatibility. The app now allows you to share tracking data to the Health app for calories and cycling, walking, and running distances.

In addition to Health app integration, the following features were also added for better iOS 8 compatibility:

  • Interactive push notifications – Getting social just got easier! Now you can reply to friend and challenge requests directly from the notification, making it quick and simple to manage incoming invites.
  • Cleaner interface – We’ve cleaned up the main menu by removing the ‘News Feed’ and ‘Fitness Test’ tabs, so your navigation through the app is even smoother. You can now find News Feed under the Friends tab and access Fitness Test from the workout screen when you press on basic workout.
  • Improved audio – We are bringing back Audio Ducking, which lowers the music volume while audio coach is talking so you can hear your feedback loud and clear.

How are you enjoying Health app integration with the latest Endomondo update?

OS X Yosemite is almost ready for its close-up as Apple releases GM candidate

OS X Yosemite is almost ready for its public debut. Apple on Tuesday released the golden master candidate of its forthcoming Mac OS, which means you can expect Yosemite to drop soon.

The GM version of an OS is typically the final product, though the developers who’ve been beta testing Yosemite since June still have time to find a few more bugs. Apple also opened up the Yosemite beta to the public for the first time in 14 years, so a lucky million Mac users got the chance to take Yosemite for a test run.

Apple revealed Yosemite, OS 10.10, at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference nearly four months ago. Six developer previews and four public beta builds have been released since then.

Apple’s iPhone 6-laden Q4 and 2014 year-end earnings due on October 20

Apple has set the date for their next fiscal earnings statement as October 20th. The statements will cover the months of July, August, and September (known in Apple corporate parlance as “Q4”), as well as the year-end statement for the 2014 fiscal year. As the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launched on the 19th of September, the first 12 days of sales (up to today) will be included in Apple’s results — with 10 million iPhones 6 sold in the first 3 of those days, there are sure to be some big numbers following a bunch of dollar signs in Apple’s results.

Here’s what Apple’s guidance was for this quarter:

  • Revenue: $37 billion to $40 billion
  • Gross Margin: 37{813a954d5e225a1509f22204ece89c855080ce25555f20805f61bed63cbfde3b} to 38{813a954d5e225a1509f22204ece89c855080ce25555f20805f61bed63cbfde3b}
  • Operating Expenses: $4.75 billion to $4.85 billion

Apple under CEO Tim Cook has pivoted towards more realistic guidance as compared to the conservative guidance the company used to offer that led to actual results consistently smashing expectations. We’ll expect to hear from both Cook and Apple CFO Luca Maestri throughout the call.
