Chillingo Phones Home With New E.T. iPad Game

I still remember watching “E.T. The Extra Terrestrial” for the first time. I’ll never forget the moment the little alien tossed that iconic ball out of the greenhouse. I was the perfect age for the adventurous movie. I wanted to fly across the sky on my bicycle too. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the most important alien movie of my life, and to celebrate, Chillingo has announced the launch of E.T. The Green Planet.

This official licensed game lets players travel with E.T. to his home planet where his dying world needs to be revived. Help him clear away rocks and debris and replant life-giving vegetation.

“E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is one of the greatest science-fiction films ever made and conjures up nostalgia for countless fans around the world. We are excited to commemorate this global cultural phenomenon by publishing an amazing new game,” explains Chris Byatte, co-general manager and co-founder of Chillingo. “As fans ourselves, we are proud to work closely with Universal Partnerships & Licensing to introduce players to the fantastical and beautiful home planet of E.T.,” adds Joe Wee, co-general manager and co-founder of Chillingo.

As an added bonus, players can unlock Gertie’s Geranium with a promo code when they purchase the new release of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray Combo Pack ($17.99 on Amazon).

The game itself is a “freemium” game where players can plant and grow a lush garden on E.T.’s home planet. Similar to other licensed games like “Smurf’s  Village” and “Shrek’s Fairytale Kingdom,” you can only get so far before having to pay real money on in-app purchases, but where else can you see the famous alien in his home environment.
