Consumers Complain that iPhone 5s Bends in Pocket

Bending

I’m going to take the high road and avoid many of the jokes people are making about headlines out of France over the past week and just present the facts. It appears that the iPhone 5s has the same rumored bending proclivity as the iPhone 5 when stored in your pocket. It’s a rumor that has not been substantiated and those familiar with the iPhone 5 and 5s claim that it isn’t likely.

The French site reporting the issue is Nowhereelse.fr and they have produced the picture posted above. I first read about this on cultofmac.com, which drew the following comment from iMobileRescue:

“This has to be some sort of mistake! I mean.. either they’re coming from the factory in some weak condition conducive to bending, or people are putting too much weight on the devices, in their pockets or elsewhere. We say that, coming from the perspective of breaking open iPhone 5′s nearly every day. We’re intimate with them, you could say.”

If this is a heat issue, then how in the world does it get hot enough in a pocket without the holder feeling it and pulling it out? If it is a structural issue, then why aren’t more phones having issues. Nothing really adds up except that perhaps people are trying to blame Apple when they are the ones who accidentally sat on them.

If this is an issue that is legitimate then shame on Apple for letting such a big problem extend from one generation to the next. All I know is that I keep my iPhone in my pocket all the time and nothing has ever happened with it. I’m proud I made it through this article without making a single inappropriate joke… it was hard to do.
