In his LinkIn profile, Michael Lochrane lists work on ‘Infinity Blade 3 for the iPhone’ which hopefully means the third installment of the series is on its way. Michael is a Senior QA Tester at ChAIR Entertainment Group and Epic Games.
Nothing else is confirmed about Infinity Blade III but any news is good news for those of us that have enjoyed the first two and are awaiting a fresh opportunity to wield a sword as an undying soldier through many generations on a quest for justice.
A short time ago there was a game in development titled Infinity Blade Dungeons, which was cancelled when its studio was closed. There was announcement at that time that another unnamed game was in the works and now it is likely to be the newly confirmed Infinity Blade III.
The biggest fear I have is that the new game will be 100{813a954d5e225a1509f22204ece89c855080ce25555f20805f61bed63cbfde3b} freemium. I’ve never been quiet about how I don’t like the freemium model and mostly because I am a parent of iPad gamers and the freemium model is a black-hole for spending my money. I have the will power to not give them my password and I rarely allow them to buy things in common freemium games, but I always feel like the bad guy. I would rather spend $4.99 on a game and have the money part out of the way instead of feeling like I need to spend to get further in the game.
This is compounded in this case because my boys and I are competing to get the highest level and strongest characters in Infinity Blade II this week and I like being able to do that in a setting where no additional money is being spent. I’m at level 65 and have beat the game 5 or 6 times in a row. This is the power of the franchise and I hope III brings the same addictive gameplay with the right balance of repetitiveness and freshness.
The features I wish would come to Infinity Blade III include player to player battles, more freedom to explore (even if it remains a track based game), and a bigger variety of opponents. Hopefully there will be an official announcement soon!
