Former MobileMe Members Finally Have to Pay Up for iCloud Storage

iCloud storage upgrades

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end — and today, the free 20GB iCloud storage ride is officially over for former MobileMe members, who must now start paying up like the rest of us.

Apple posted a support document to its website Tuesday detailing the expiration of a complementary storage plan extended to former MobileMe members since the service was shut down in 2011.

“Former MobileMe members received a complimentary storage plan after moving to iCloud between October 12, 2011, and August 1, 2012,” the support document reads. “On September 30, 2013, the complimentary iCloud storage plans expired and were automatically adjusted to the free 5 GB plan. If you already purchased a storage plan, no further action is required.”

That previously free 20GB storage bump will now cost MobileMe members $40 per year just like everyone else, although Apple also offers options for 10GB for $20 per year as well as 50GB for $100 per year.

And before you former MobileMe members go whining about how Apple is screwing you over, keep in mind that the 20GB freebie was extended an extra year last September, which is a pretty sweet deal if you ask us.
