Are you taking math this semester? Do you need a good calculator app? Well, I suppose you could try one of those expensive, fancy Scientific calculators, but there is an even better option.

MyScript, makers of the fascinating handwriting apps MyScript Memo and MyScript Notes Mobile recently released a calculator app that turns your scribbles, scratches, and scrawls into complex mathematical calculations, complete with answers.

Users simply start writing out math equations and before you’re even finished writing, you’ll have your answer. Quick, ask me what nine-to-the-power-seven is. I’ll bet my handwritten scrawl is faster than your button pushing.

Users write any amount of numbers and equations that will fit on the screen. You can even add more to the equation after you’ve already created it. You don’t have to start over if you decide that you’ll need to divide the first number by 12 before moving on with the rest of the equation.

The app supports basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, powers, exponentials, percentages, and more. It also supports trigonometry operations like sin, cos, and tan. If you are really into math, you can use inverse trig, logarithms, and constants.  The possibilities are nearly limitless.

Using handwriting recognition, the app will know when you are trying to divide or find square roots. It won’t get confused if you add a decimal after the equation has already been solved. It will understand that you are trying to change a number if you write six over the top of seven. You can even remove a number by scribbling over it. The app recognizes your handwriting gestures and performs accordingly.

Considering how easy this app is to use and how well it works, it is hard to believe there isn’t some hidden fee to use it. But, no. It is completely free. Download it now and be the first in your class to get the answer when your math professor asks, “What is the square root of 75 divided by 143 multiplied by four times nine… no make that 65, not 75?”

What I Liked: It is so easy to enter your calculations. I wish I had something like this when I was in school. I always hated using a calculator. This would have been awesome.

What I Didn’t Like: The handwriting recognition tended to mix up my ones and sevens a lot. I started adding the designating horizontal line across my sevens so that it would know the difference.

To Buy or Not to Buy: If you are taking a math class, you’ll love having this app. Even if you just need help figuring out the discount on a sale item, you’ll be able to scribble it out fast and easy.
