Herd, Herd, Herd Deluxe is a time relay arcade game with a farmhouse theme. Round up those feathered freeloaders to earn stars and keep your animals from getting away. Farmer Jed’s hens have escaped from their coop and your job is to make sure they don’t make it to the other side of the street, if you’ll excuse the pun.
Players are tasked with the mission of getting various livestock back into their perspective pens by tapping the screen to get ‘em moving. To kick start the animals, tap the screen directly behind one. It will give them a spook and send them forward. To keep them moving, drag your finger across the screen behind the livestock and they will boot scoot their way to the pen. The animals don’t exactly move in a straight line, so you’ll have to keep track of them and adjust your taps along the way.
The farm is not all straw and fences. There are potholes, moving bridges, and even invading predators like foxes. Players must avoid falling into ditches while outrunning coyotes and everything is under a time limit. If you don’t get your chickens into the pen before time is up, they will escape.
The courses are challenging. Sometimes, you’ll have to follow certain steps very specifically in order to get all of the stars before time runs out. For example, on one level, you may have to cross a moving bridge first in order to get the star on the other side in time. If you try getting the other stars first, you’ll run out of time.
There are special bonuses that players can use to help them get through particularly tough levels. For example, Harvest Moon will extend the amount of time you have to complete a level.
This game is lots of fun and has some great challenges. If you like arcade games that have you race against the clock while you try to complete your task, this is definitely fun. The replay value isn’t particularly high, but there are nine worlds with eight levels in each, so you’ll be playing for a while.
What I liked: I know it’s juvenile, but I love that there is a bonus called Fart Stick that “unleashes a farm animal farting frenzy.”
What I didn’t like: I don’t really appreciate games that cost money to play and also have in-app purchases. The items in the store are bonuses, but the idea of spending an extra dollar on a Fart Stick is really hard to pass up. Why couldn’t I just unlock it with earned coins?
To buy or not to buy: Fans of time relay arcade games will enjoy this one. The replay value is low, but there are a lot of levels. If you are looking for a farm-themed tapping game, you might find this one amusing.
