How Many Primates Can You Knockout? Find Out in Monkey Boxing – iPad Game Review

monkeyboxingSometimes after a long hard day at work it’s nice to have a relaxing, stress-relieving game to play. One that’s simple, fun, and requires little brain power to play. Monkey Boxing is one such game, offering up fast-paced fighting gameplay that will allow you to tap away your woes.

As you might have imagined, this is a boxing game, starring monkeys. That’s right, you get to take on the role of a monkey boxer and join up with the Monkey Boxing League. Your only goal is to fight for your life in order to be the last monkey standing.

Before you begin a match, you can customize your monkey boxer. You can change the color of his shorts, his gloves, and give him zany accessories like hats, wigs, and glasses. You start out with a few of these available accessories, but will be able to unlock more throughout the course of the game.

There are two buttons on the screen to deal with. The right button is the punch button while the left button controls blocks. You can tap the right button repeatedly to initiate combo attacks, but you will also need to keep an eye on the block button to avoid getting knocked out.

Watch for an incoming punch and then hold down block to avoid it. If you time your blocks well you will throw your opponent off his guard allowing you the upper edge to throw some punches.

At the end of the round, you will need to complete a special maneuver to complete the round with a powerful attack. If you touch all of the stars quickly, you might just be able to send that opponent to the mat.

There are also challenges that go off, which require you to rotate the wheel on the screen as fast as possible with a finger. This is actually the most difficult part of the game because it requires quite a lot of vigor.

As you fight, your monkey will gain strength, endurance, and speed, which will make him a better fighter. Each fight will also get progressively harder as you progress through the game’s 50 matches.

In addition to playing through the main mode, you can also challenge your friends to boxing matches which can be played out on the same iPad. As I mentioned, there are 50 levels, but you can continue on fighting even after you have beat them all for unlimited gameplay. There are also 90 achievements to earn, so that ought to keep you busy for quite some time.

What I liked: I love games with plenty of customization options, and Monkey Boxing delivers in that arena. It also has a slew of achievements and offers up uncomplicated, fun gameplay along with ultra impressive 3D graphics.

What I didn’t like: At $2.99, Monkey Boxing has a fairly high price tag for a casual App Store game with such simplistic controls.

To buy or not to buy: If you just want to mash buttons and have some fast-paced fighting fun, Monkey Boxing is the game for you.
