After upgrading my MacBook Pro to Lion this past fall, whenever I leave a Finder window open and shut down the computer, the window will appear briefly on restart, but then disappear. This means that I have to reopen all of the Finder windows that I need to work with. Sometimes the windows will remain open after restart, but more often they don’t. Do you have any solutions?
There are two things that you should check to ensure that your windows will be reopened after a restart. First, navigate to System Preferences > General, and make sure that the box labeled “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps” is selected.
Check this box to make sure your windows will be reopened when restarting your Mac.
Next, when you restart or shut down your Mac from the Apple menu, you will get a small dialog that has a checkbox labeled, “Reopen windows when logging back in.” Making sure this box is checked before you restart or shut down your Mac will ensure that your window states are being saved.
If you’re already doing these things, and the weird behavior persists…sounds like a bug. Make sure Lion is fully updated, and you could always stash those Finder folders in the sidebar or put aliases on the desktop to make them easier to open quickly.
