iPad Battery Case Lets You Charge Multiple Devices on the Go

iPad Battery Case

Apple designed the iPad to be as light as possible, but when the battery dies you might as well have a desktop computer plugged into the wall. A new Kickstarter from Fang Wang provides additional battery power for up to two devices on the go. The battery also functions as an iPad case which provides protection and a 360 degree stand.

I’ve written about a number of Kickstarter campaigns in the past and I love that people with good ideas can find financial support from an involved community of tech users. The Kickstarter process helps weed out bad ideas, supports popular ones, and gives everyone a chance.

The proposed case is seeking $60,000 in the next 46 days ($630 funded so far) and I think there is a solid chance of finding enough supporters out there who are wanting to extend their device’s battery life. The biggest issue is the addition of up to 667g of weight, which essentially detracts from the best part of owning an iPad. The proposal also includes a backpack (frontpack?) that can be used to support the iPad w/ case instead of having to support it for long periods of times with your arms.

I will check back with this campaign as it develops, but I feel like it would be perfect when going on vacation, sitting in classes all day, or on a long flight. I’m sure I will wish I had something like this when flying to Beijing next month, because I doubt my iPad battery will hold up on the 14 hour flight. The only thing I could think of to improve this idea is to have an option with the battery inside the backpack instead of in the iPad case. When I walk around the bag could be charging the iPad and when I stop I can take advantage of the light, yet charged, iPad. The best of both worlds.
