iPad Mini Reportedly Already in Production at Chinese Factory

Move over, Foxtron. There’s a new iPad assembly factory in town, and we call her Pegatron.

The Taiwanese paper Economic Daily News reports that Foxconn no longer holds the monopoly on iPad production. The paper reports that two security firms claim that Pegatron

Foxconn and Pegatron are expected to assemble 5 million iPad minis a month. While 5 million iPads minis a month may seem like a large number, only time will tell if demand for the smaller iPad — which isn’t even officially on the market yet — will outstrip supply.

Pegatron may also take on a share of iPhone 5 assembly as early as Q4, which will help Apple reach its target of shipping 53 million smartphones this year.  Given how fast the iPhone 5 presales sold out, Apple seems poised to meet consumer demand for its newest, fastest phone.
