Just when you think that Apple can’t get any more popular, it sets new records in sales of its products. If you were one of the lucky shoppers who managed to preorder the iPhone 5 before supplies ran out, you’ll be pawing at your phone this coming Friday, Sept. 21. If you missed the small window of opportunity to get the new iPhone on time, your preorder wait time could be as late as October. According to Apple, iPhone 5 sales hit the two million mark in the first 24 hours.
The popularity of the newest gadget to come from Apple is overwhelming. The preorder sales were for twice as many units as the iPhone 4S on its first day of sales.
“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
While preorders are still offered at Apple’s online store, wait times are expected to be “2-3 weeks,” meaning the beginning of October.
You could always wait in line at one of Apple’s brick-and-mortar stores on Friday, Sept. 21, starting at 8:00 a.m. local time. If you’ve never done so before, line sitting is an event by itself. You meet all kinds of people from all walks of life. Everyone is there for one reason, so you all have something in common- your desperate love of Apple products.
Limited number of iPhone 5s will also be available at AT&T and Verizon stores, Best Buy, RadioShack, Target, and Walmart. However, from personal experience, those stores usually have very limited supplies, so be sure to show up early.
