iPhone 5 sales top five million in first week of launch. iOS 6 now powers 100 million devices

Apple has issued a Press release to announce the sales of it’s newly released iPhone 5 and the sale numbers are mind blowing. According to the Press Release the company sold over five million iPhone 5 units in just three days of it’s launch on September 21. Currently iPhone 5 is only available to users in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK. It will be launched in 22 more countries on September 28 and a hundred more countries will be added to this list by the end of this year. Thanks to the overwhelming demand of iPhone 5, the orders for the new iPhone have already exceeded the initial supply and many customers will have to wait until October to get their iPhone 5 delivered to them. On this CEO Tim Cook said

“Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,”.

When compared iPhone 5 has beaten it’s predecessors with a huge margin as in the first 3 days 1.7 million units of iPhone 4 were sold, whereas Apple sold 4 million units for iPhone 4S last year in first 3 days.

Along with announcing the sale numbers for the iPhone 5, Apple also revealed the number of devices that are now running iOS 6. According to Apple the new version of iOS that was just released on September 19th has been installed on over 100 million iOS devices.
