iStick is a Flash Drive for your iPad or iPhone – a Kickstarter Project

One major argument I hear from friends regarding why they think their tablet is better than the iPad is the USB connector port. No, the iPad does not have a USB port. However, you can plug a USB device into it using the USB Camera Adapter. You can’t however, just plug in a flash drive and drag-and-drop files between devices. That is, until now. The iStick is a USB flash drive with a Lightning connector that includes a compatible app for downloading content from the stick to your iPad.

The iStick is a basic flash drive. When you connect it to your Mac or PC, a file window opens up automatically and you can drag content from you computer to the file window. Then, you can flip the switch on the drive, turning a USB connector into a Lightning connector.

What makes this device so special is that, thanks to a compatible app, you can access the files inside the iStick right on your iOS device. You can even download content onto your iPad.

The iStick supports music and movie playback that is not natively compatible with iOS devices. The in-app media player supports MP4, M4V, MPV, MOV, MPG, MKV, AVI, WMV, RMVB, FLV, 3GP, and GIF. You can stream 1080 HD movies from the iStick to your iOS device without needing an Internet connection.

The device also features a photo and document viewer that supports Excel, Word, Powerpoint, PDF, and all iWork apps. You can open files on the iStick without having to download them to your iOS device.

However, you can add them to your iPad if you wish using the “Open In” feature, which shows you the apps that are compatible with a given file. You can open file from other apps in the iStick app and open files from iStick in other apps.

The iStick comes in black or white and four different storage capacities, including 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128 GB sizes. Based on the company’s production and fulfillment schedule, the iStick will ship to Kickstarter pledge customers by the end of August.

The prices range from $65 for the 8GB model, up to $299 for the 128GB model. Early Bird pledges receive up to 50 percent off of the retail price of the device when it is made publicly available. Visit the iStick Kickstarter campaign to preorder yours today.
