Over the weekend, MacPhun reduced the price of its popular FX Photo Studio appp for iPhone to free. Four days later it had reached one million downloads. In an effort to become the number one photo-editing app around the world, the company has reduced the price of the iPad version to free as well. Both apps are expected to stay free until the total download number reaches 10 million.
According to the company’s Tumblr feed, more than a quarter of a million people downloaded the FX Photo Studio iPhone app on its first day being free. By Sunday, the app had been downloaded more than one million times.
This sparked MacPhun’s decision to make the iPad version free for a limited time as well. According to the infograph published on their blog, the apps will remain free for a while. “We’ll keep both iPhone and iPad versions of FX Studio free until the number of downloads reaches 10,000,000.”
The marketing tactics have been successful so far. MacPhun is reporting that FX Photo Studio HD is now the number one free photography app in 39 countries. Not bad for only one day on sale.
We love FX Photo Studio HD and are happy for MacPhun’s success. If you don’t already own the awesome photo-editing app, be sure to download it while it is free. Once they hit 10 million downloads, you’ll be out of luck.
