Microsoft Working on its own Surface “mini”

The Verge is reporting news that Microsoft is secretly working on their own version of a smaller sized tablet. This new mini tablet is rumored to be dedicated specifically to creating a mobile gaming experience for Xbox. Initial hardware planning is apparently already underway.

According to The Verge, unnamed sources have reported that the smaller Windows tablet, dubbed “Xbox Surface” will likely include an ARM processor with high-bandwidth RAM specifically designed for gaming.

“We’re told these specifications could be altered to accommodate an unannounced Intel SoC and that the Xbox Surface is being developed independent of specific hardware architecture.”

Instead of running a full version of Windows, the Xbox Surface is reportedly going to run a custom Windows application that focuses on gaming.

The Verge reported that Microsoft developed a secret hardware production process for its Surface tablets different from the manufactures of Xbox consoles. The Xbox Surface will likely be manufactured at that secret plant. However, sources told The Verge that any future Xbox 720 console will be “manufactured in mass quantities” by companies like Pegatron or Foxconn.
