More New iPhone Buyers Switching from Android Than in 2012

If new research from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners is true, it looks as though more Android users are switching to iPhone than we’ve seen in the past. As AppleInsider reports, CIRP gained its data from interviews with 400 owners of the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

According to CIRP’s findings, 20 percent of the 400 new iPhone 5s and 5c buyers said they were coming from Android this year, compared to the 16 percent who said they were switching from Android to the iPhone 5 last year. AppleInsider notes that there’s a special significance to these numbers, as Apple sold “significantly more iPhones” this year in a market where smartphone usage is rapidly expanding on a global scale.

CIRP’s data also revealed some telling other findings, such as the way the number of users upgrading to an iPhone from a non-smartphone has actually decreased, presumably because fewer people use such devices these days. In addition, this year’s launch brought back more previous iPhone users than any other year. For specifics, 65 percent of the buyers of the iPhone 5s and 5c had owned an iPhone before, compared to the 55 percent from last year.
