Over the past couple of years, we’ve reviewed Mophie’s “juice packs” for extending the battery life of your iPhone with varying degrees of praise, but the company’s latest announcement may be the most intriguing yet. At CES 2014 today (via 9to5 Mac), Mophie announced its new “Space Pack,” which not only serves as a 1700 mAh battery case, but also bumps up the storage capacity of your iPhone by 16 or 32 GB.
That’s a pretty hefty addition, but keep in mind that it’s only available for the iPhone 5 and 5s. Consider, for instance, that if you own a 64GB iPhone, the Space Pack could increase that all the way to 96GB of storage. That storage can apparently be used for the file type of your choosing, whether it’s photos, videos, or music.
It’s even easy to get to the files, thanks to Mophie’s own Space app (although it remains to be seen how well it’ll all work in practice). Since the Space Pack connects through the Lightning port, you won’t need to worry about unreliable Wi-Fi connections or data plans, and that also means you can play your files directly from the pack itself.
The main bummer? It ain’t cheap. The Space Pack will put you back 149.95 for the 16GB variety and 179.95 for the 32GB model. Still, if you’re interested, you can expect to see it on March 14, or you can pre-order now.
