Video playing apps are going to be a treat on the new, larger screen iPhone 5. Netflix isn’t wasting anytime, releasing an updated app today with new bells and whistles for your current iPhone and iPod touch, and setting the stage for the bigger and badder iPhone 5 hitting the streets next week.
On their blog today, Netflix announced the release of a new Netflix “experience” for the iPhone and iPod touch, and clearly the world’s leading subscription service for watching TV shows and movies is trying hard to keep things fresh. Claiming to be much more immersive, the update brings many of the Netflix iPad app features to the smaller screen, including fitting more titles and galleries on the screen.
Now when you open the app on your iPhone, you will be greeted at the top of the screen with a row of shows or movies that you previously started, and you’ll now be able to continue right where you left off. Below that are several rows of TV show and movie recommendations, personalized according to your viewing habits.
A new cool feature allows you to bring up information about any title by tapping on it once, and to instantly start playing that title by clicking on it twice.
The updated app is free and available now in the App Store for devices using iOS 5 and above; Netflix also claims to have another update coming soon that will take advantage of the larger screen on the iPhone 5. Get streaming!
