As a Mac Pro owner, it’s sometimes hard not to feel like Apple has just forgotten its professional desktop user-base all together. Sure, there was a new Mac Pro this year — but it was hardly a step above the 2010 model. While we wait to see if Apple will revitalize the product line, at least NVIDIA is offering something new.
Today, the company announced the Quadro K5000 GPU for Mac Pro, which NVIDIA calls “the most powerful professional-class GPU ever for the Macintosh.” The new card, which includes support for running two K5000 units in one tower, is based on Kepler architecture.
Beyond the obvious speed boost, the Quadro K5000 also adds support for 4K resolution. Coupled with the ability to use four displays, the new unit sounds like a great piece of arsenal for editors and color correction specialists.
