Paper by FiftyThree is a very slick and unique-looking new drawing app for the iPad. Here’s its App Store elevator pitch:
It’s the easiest and most beautiful way to create on the new iPad. Capture your ideas as sketches, diagrams, illustrations, notes or drawings and instantly share them across the web.
It looks great in demo videos, and my friend and writing colleague Thomas Wong rates it highly. That’s a very solid recommendation in my book, and that’s his illustration shown at the top of this post as well.
It does have a strange pricing approach – the app is free but you need to purchase packs of tools for it – from an Essentials pack for $7.99 to Color, Sketch, Write, and Outline at $1.99 each. Most drawing and painting apps tend to be paid not free, but it’s relatively rare to see a need for In-App purchase of additional tools.
I’d love to say I’ve tried the app out, but my drawing skills are right up there with the singing talents of those people who provide the comedy at American Idol auditions. If you have give the app a try I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
