Last week we reported that Personal Pickeup for the iPhone 5s would resume today, and while that’s technically true, you shouldn’t expect to be able to waltz into any Apple retail store and be able to leave with one if you ordered one online. The option is available, but in almost every case, the phones themselves are not.
MacRumors posted about the news in reference to the Apple’s native San Francisco Bay area, where the 16GB Space Gray model for the iPhone models was listed as being available at two locations in Palo Alto, California. When I tried the same thing here in Chicago, though, I saw nothing. I scrolled to the end of the suggestion list, by which time it was listing a location in Cincinnati (300 miles away), and in no instance was an iPhone 5s available for in-store pickup.
If it’s that severe for what’s essentially the “normal” iPhone 5s model, you can imagine what it’s like for the silver and gold versions. In all cases, there’s only a notice that all three models will ship sometime in October, which seems to be the case for every other country where you can buy the iPhone 5s as well.
As MacRumors notes, some lucky customers with Virgin Mobile USA and smaller carriers in the United States and Canada such as Appalachian Wireless and Strata will be able to buy the device when it goes live for them tomorrow (October 1), but for the rest of us, the actual date of shipment remains uncertain.
