by In a move that may have made the folks over at Apple wince a little, today President Obama took the opportunity to deflect criticism of the allegedly slow and buggy HealthCare.gov site to compare the site’s launch to Apple’s recent launch of iOS 7. As we’ve covered on a least two occasions, iOS 7’s public release hasn’t been without its share of bugs, but the Cupertino giant was quick to remedy at least one with a patch that landed within the first week of launch.
Obama’s speech was chiefly addressed at the government shutdown affecting the United States today (and possibly well into the future), but the new health care site figured heavily into the speech as well. Referring to Apple’s quick fix of the vulnerability bug for Control Center, Obama said, “Consider that just a couple of weeks ago, Apple rolled out a new mobile operating system, and within days, they found a glitch, so they fixed it.”

“I don’t remember anybody suggesting Apple should stop selling iPhones or iPads or threatening to shut down the company if they didn’t,” the president added (and revealing that he probably doesn’t read as many forums as I do). “That’s not how we do things in America,” he said. “We don’t actively root for failure.”
As noted by AppleInsider, President Obama wasn’t the only one to reference Apple’s recently discovered bugs and the associated patch in iOS 7; Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius also mentioned the update.
“Apple, you know, has a few more resources than we have to roll out technology, and a few more people who’ve been working on the system for a while, and no-one is calling on Apple to not sell devices for a year or two, you know, get out of the business because the whole thing is a failure,” Sebelius said.
