Raspberry Pi Hacked to Work as an AirPlay Speaker

Raspberry Pi, the tiny $25 computer, has been hacked to act as an AirPlay audio receiver. Jordan Burgees, an engineering student at Cambridge, accomplished this with Debian Linux, a USB Wi-Fi card and an SD card. Once Debian is loaded, you just need to install Shairport, an app that emulates Apple’s AirPort Express. Burgees named the hack “AirPi.”

For full instructions on how to set up a Raspberry Pi as an AirPlay speaker, check out Burgees’ blog.

Raspberry Pi runs on a 700MHz ARM-based processor, 512MB of RAM, and both HDMI and Composite video outputs. Visit raspberrypi.org for more details.
