Retro Instagram Viewer for iPad Gets Video Download, Night Mode, and Complete UI Redesign

Because Instagram doesn’t offer an iPad-optimized version of their service, we are relegated to using the 2X zoom method or finding a third-party app that works. Retro is a third-party iPad app specifically designed to make your Instagram feed look like a million bucks. It was recently rebuilt with a better user interface, video downloads, and a new night theme.

Retro for Instagram lets you connect your Instagram feed so you can view your friends’ posts, “like” pictures, comment, and follow new users. You can view posts by hashtags, see uploads from other users, and discover new Instagramers with the curated trending now section.

The app lets you view images in four different ways. Full screen gives you a close up of images so you can scroll down, similar to the way the Instagram app works. Info display lets you see images along with who posted them, how many people liked them, and any comments made. The truncated info view makes the pictures slightly bigger and removes the comments. The grid view makes it easy for you to scan all of your Instagram photos quickly without unnecessary info.

Version 2.0 has made some slight changes to the user interface that gives it an extra “wow factor.” Images zoom in and out better, animations are smoother, and photos populate faster.

The app now includes the ability to download videos, as well as photos. If your sister-in-law posted a short clip of your nephew walking for the first time, you can download it to your iPad and share it with your grandma when she comes to visit.

Users can now switch between light and dark themes. The light theme features a white background with dark blue accents. The dark theme is mostly dark blue with light blue and white accents. Personally, I prefer the dark theme. I think it looks pretty fancy.

Retro for Instagram is free to download with no pesky advertisements to get in the way. The dark theme, multiple accounts, and photo and video download features are available for an in-app purchase of $2.99. Download it in the App Store today.
